I don’t need the most elaborate sewing machine, as I just want to use it for hems mostly, but I don’t want one that is going to fall apart the first time I use it either. What brands are good quality but still on the cheaper side?

My sister wants a sewing machine for her b-day. She has never used one before and I am not sure what to get..I wanted to stay at or around $100.00 is it worth it to get one that cheap or would a gift cert. be a better option?

The kind of projects I’d like to attempt are simple clothes for my kids and tote bags and to be able to repair/ hem clothing. I’ve never used a sewing machine in my life. My only experience with needle and thread is cross-stitch and replacing buttons. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been using my mother’s Singer Meritt 4530 for years now, and am now looking to buy a machine for myself. I generally sew purses, mend clothes, etc, but am looking to get more into making clothing/accessories as well as quilting. Is there a good, solid, all around type of sewing machine that I should be looking at? What type of features should I look for in a machine that would allow them to work for the type of sewing that I want to do?

I need to know what kind of sewing machine will be able to stand up to a heavy vinyl fabric. I’ll also need to do finishing work such as rolled edges. I think what I really might be looking for is a serger, but I wasn’t sure if they can sew in a plain straight line.

I’ve never had a sewing machine before- I’d like to find one that can sew just about any fabric and do embroidery. Is there a reasonably priced machine that a beginner could purchase that has the mentioned functions?

I am interested in what type of sewing machine to use for beginners. I want to be able to make my own clothes not as a profession but as a hobby. I always wanted to but I dont know how to use a sewing machine. I know how to sew and work with patterns and fabric just need a bit of simplicity with a starter sewing machine. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
